Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Miami Valley is embarking upon an exciting new endowment development program to better serve our community and to preserve the Agency for the future. The program, entitled the MY Legacy Society (Mentoring Youth), will provide the opportunity for current and future donors to preserve the unique one-to-one mentoring service provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters for future generations of Miami Valley's youth.
In joining the MY Legacy Society, individuals will be provided valuable information about sound estate planning alternatives available to protect the mentoring services provided to children in our community. Unlike a "campaign" approach intended to encourage financial support for current needs, the MY Legacy Society is comprised of individuals who have a desire, in their heart, to invest in the future for our children in our community.
In an uncertain world, hope for the future must prevail. With the uncertainty of continued funding resources, coupled with the oftentimes bleak economic outlook, some local non-profit organizations are being forced to reduce services and/or close operations altogether. For nearly 100 years, throughout the nation, thousands of donors have supported Big Brothers Big Sisters' goal to transform children's lives and futures. We are asking individuals to look beyond tomorrow, beyond next week, or next year. We ask that you look toward the next 100 years, ensuring that Your Legacy is that of transforming the lives of children. Wouldn't it be comforting to know that a simple act today will provide support to Big Brothers Big Sisters forever?
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you have to be rich to leave a legacy?
Leaving a legacy does not require wealth or fame. It only requires a desire to continue supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters after you are gone. You can determine the legacy that you leave. Gifts may come in the form of money, property, an investment or percentage of an estate. - How do I leave a legacy?
There are many ways for you to leave a legacy. Some methods will even provide your heirs a tax benefit. Some methods provide income for the life of the donor, and then it becomes a permanent legacy after you are gone. - Is it possible to give my family income from my retirement plan and still make a charitable gift?
Yes. And this can be a very thoughtful way to provide for a charitable gift after first taking care of loved ones. You may direct that one or more persons receive a fixed or variable income for life or another specified period of time, with amounts remaining at the end of the term you choose devoted for charitable purposes. In so doing, you can provide for significant tax savings while still helping to assure future financial security for your loved ones. - Who can help me leave a legacy?
To ensure proper legal documentation, we recommend you contact your family attorney or financial advisor. We will be pleased to provide more information to you and your advisors about ways you can make your gifts in this thoughtful and meaningful way.
